Rejection number 93–better than a form letter, maybe

Rejection number 93 (of “Interview the Murder Victim”) would seem to be either a non-form letter or at least the form letter they send to writers they don’t hate. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking.

“Thank you for your recent submission to Xxx Magazine. While we appreciate your submission, at this time we are unable to find a place for it in our magazine. We think that you have much potential, and we hope that you submit to our magazine in the future.”

Officer Buddy Simmons and his ghastly friend Lamont are temporarily out of luck, but hey maybe I will send this market something else.  However, since I sent “Airlock” back out over the weekend, I’m temporarily out of stories to submit. Oh well, their loss.

Back to the editing clipboard for Interview.  And yes it’s a red clipboard with a red pen.

93 down, 7 to go.

I’ve accumulated 90 rejections for my short stories over the past 3 years and change. A few wins too–6 to be exact–on a total of 16 stories put out there.  My record is 12 rejections for one story (“The Cavalryman’s Saber”), but the good news is that it was accepted for publication this fall.

So I’ll be counting down the rejection notices over the next couple of month from #91 through lucky #100.  Yes it’s a little morbid, but hey it’s a coping mechanism.  I think. Stay tuned.

PS–Maybe I’ll get a win in the mix.
